Aug. 12th, 2008 12:10 amJohn carries the note with him into the train station, glancing at it occasionally, though at this point he all but has it memorized:
My Dear John,
Please make all haste to London. There is much, too much I'm afraid, that should have been explained to you well before now. I only pray that this letter finds you well enough to travel, and that you will bear me no ill will for what is to come. I do not know if you are ready, and that is my own burden to bear. But I believe you are able, and mayhap that is enough. I hope it is.
Professor Sigurdsson
The letter is dated one week ago, but John only received it yesterday and sent a wire response to his mentor immediately.
He has been weak and exhausted since being sent home from the front with trench fever, and he is still not back to his usual health. The perplexing letter from the professor only serves to further tax his mental state. All in all, he's not feeling altogether well when he steps into his compartment on the train.
